ON VIEW interferences of digital and physical re-/presentations puts the relationship between exhibitions and their digital availability in perspective. The exhibition opens online on www.on-view.eu and will be shown at KV -- Leipzig as (re-) interpretation of the works in the web and its subsequent view in space.
Can it still be said that exhibitions are considered from an autonomous view? Or have the faces of online image circulation created their own perspective?
The standardized codes, which social media and digital technologies entail, are long part of what once was conveyed by physical presence, aura and subjective perception. From there result paradoxes of the meaning of production and the mode of action of exhibitions, which ON VIEW seeked to make accessible via a specific display situation: a both digital and physical presence. This online exhibition was be presented at KV -- Leipzig as its (re-)interpretation and subsequent view in space, opening on June 26th.
Behind the project thus stands the question of presentation and representation strategies in the digital society; of interrelations and interdependencies amidst viewing habits, which need to be taken into account. For the white walls of the exhibition space are becoming a screen for global accessibility from every perspective, the online displays are not merely invisibly highlighting the artwork - they are a visualization of the exhibition as view. Is it therefore the documentation photograph that creates an original aura and a subjective experience?
ON VIEW focuses on the structure of exhibitions as view - and views as exhibitions. The show will be accompanied by a guided tour and a table talk at KV -- Leipzig on July 4th, which will gathered experts for a discussion on the topics raised in the exhibition. Participants were Yvonne Bialek (art historian, Braunschweig University of Art, PhD program "The Photographic Dispositif"), Timo Feldhaus (online editor, Spike Art Quarterly), Timo Hinze (artist), Kilian Schellbach (artist, lecturer, curator, KV -- Leipzig), Anna Lena von Helldorf (designer, KV -- Leipzig), Uwe Walter (photographer, Berlin), Agnieszka Roguski (talk moderation).
